BCMA Response to London Ontario attack

8 Jun

Asslamualakom,

On behalf of the BC Muslim Association and the Muslim community of British Columbia, we offer our prayers, condolences, love and support to the family and community of the 4 Martyrs from London, Ontario.

Today families across Canada are horrified and shocked at the news from Ontario.

A 20-year-old white supremacist put on body armour, got into his pickup truck, waited until he saw a Muslim family of 5 out for an evening walk, then ran them over.

4 people were killed and a 9-year-old boy, the only survivor, has lost his mom, dad, sister, and grandmother.

This is a terrorist attack on Canadian soil and should be treated as such.

Canadian Muslims have become all too familiar with Islamophobia in the form of online hate and real-world violence. The Quebec City Mosque shootings, the murders outside a Toronto Mosque, the attacks against Muslim women in Alberta, the daily insults, attacks, and harassment Muslims, and others, face due to White Supremacist Ideology needs to be called out.

We ask our government and all political parties to take stronger legislative action against this hateful and dangerous ideology.

For those allies out there, who are asking “What Can I Do?” You can stand up against hate and discrimination when you hear it at the dinner table or on the bus. Stand with #ourlondonfamily.

Our answer to those who try to divide Canadians through discord and hate is to unite Canadians through allyship and love.

The official LaunchGood for the victims is supported by family members, the London Muslim Mosque, and Islamic Relief Canada:

We ask Allah to protect our community and keep our families safe.
