The B.C. Muslim Association condemns pepper spray attack on Syrian newcomers at the MAC Centre on Friday, January 9th after an event that was organized by Canadian Muslims to welcome our Syrian brothers and sisters with open arms. The perpetrator’s behavior is disgusting, cowardly and gutless. The newcomers have suffered unimaginable atrocities and left behind everything and found shelter in our country in the hopes of a better future. To be treated as such is not only un-Canadian but inhumane. Our hearts go out and we feel their pains. We condemn such actions on innocent victims in the strongest terms.
Although it’s an isolated case, we appeal to our members, community and all Canadians to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
